Tracy A. Williamson, Ph.D.

Dr. Tracy Williamson strives to help people connect with their inner wisdom and provides tools to help them increase the joy and peace in their lives. She customizes treatment to each individual client and utilizes different therapeutic approaches ranging from Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Short Term Solution Focused Therapy, Insight Oriented Therapy, Trauma Focused Therapy, and Psychodynamic Dialectical Therapy. While working collaboratively with adults as well as children and their families, she addresses a wide range of mental health concerns. She often utilizes psychological testing as an additional tool to better aid in the evaluative process.

Dr. Williamson has extensive outpatient clinical experience and for over nearly a decade has worked at her own private practice. While in private practice, she also held an academics position, and was actively involved in teaching graduate students. Between 2006 and 2009 she served as Associate Professor at the Chicago School of Psychology in Irvine California. There she taught courses in the Diagnostic Statistical Manual “DSM,” PTSD, human development, and research methodology. Additionally, she aided in developing and implementing programs to assist in supervising psychological assistants and students in training. Her most recent clinical experience involves work with veterans and their families struggling with PTSD and other stressors associated with military family life.

In 2000, Dr. Williamson graduated with honors while completing a PhD in Clinical Psychology and Human Development at Claremont Graduate University. Prior to this, she attended National University, in Costa Mesa California, and completed graduate courses in special education. She also attended California State University, Long Beach where she completed a thesis in ADD/ADHD and “Learning Styles.” Aside from several years of graduate school supervision and her work towards a PhD, Dr. Williamson has considerable experience working with children and their families. In fact, for many years she had worked as an elementary and special education teacher as well as a family support coordinator for the Capistrano Unified School District.

Dr. Williamson believes that the “gold standard of treatment” for some individuals may often be a combination of medication and therapy; but she also believes that many people can achieve their treatment goals with therapy alone. At Harbor Psychiatry and Mental Health, she works collaboratively with a team of psychiatrists and advanced practitioners so that patients who are not seeing enough progress with therapy alone, can also be evaluated for the possible addition of medication. With decades of experience working in mental health, she has found that this structure can best optimize treatment outcomes.
